The department was founded in 1923 on the basis of the Donetsk Institute of Public Education in Luhansk.

The main goal of the department and its objectives are to equip higher education students with knowledge of the theoretical foundations of modern pedagogical science, to develop practical and creative skills which are necessary for the effective organization of the pedagogical process in the modern information environment; to develop global, critical and creative thinking skills, the ability to quickly adapt to changes in the world of information and communication technologies; to involve students in research and to supervise their research projects. The work of the faculty on the problems of modern pedagogical science within the framework of the department’s research topic: “Quality of Higher Education: Theory, Monitoring, Technology”.

The mission of the department is to form a new generation of school teachers and lecturers of higher education institutions on the basis of mastering modern knowledge of pedagogical science, using active methods and techniques of teaching disciplines. Formation of skills not only of a teacher, educator, researcher, but also of a manager, coach, innovation project manager, etc., development of abilities to innovate, mastery of information technologies, effective communication methods (communication with the team and different categories of students).


Educational activities

Academic staff train specialists in the field of knowledge “01 Education/Pedagogy” in the specialty “011 Educational, Pedagogical Sciences” at the second (master’s) level of higher education under the Educational and professional program “Higher Education Pedagogy” and in the specialty “011 Educational, Pedagogical Sciences” at the third (educational and scientific) level of higher education under the Educational and scientific program “011 Educational, Pedagogical Sciences” (011 Educational, Pedagogical Sciences). Educational activities are also conducted within other specialties in accordance with educational programs and curricula.

Areas of practice: higher education institutions of various accreditation levels and forms of ownership, research and teaching institutions, continuing education and postgraduate education institutions.

Graduate employment opportunities: The field of employment for graduates majoring in “011 Educational, Pedagogical Sciences” is institutions subordinated to the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine: higher education institutions of various levels of accreditation and forms of ownership, scientific and pedagogical institutions, institutions of advanced training and postgraduate education.

The educational process is provided by the faculty of the department: 1 Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, 8 Candidates of Pedagogical Sciences, 1 Doctor of Philosophy.


Scientific activities

In 2016, the department has started the work on a new research topic: “Quality of Higher Education: Theory, Monitoring, Technology”.

The scientific development of a set of issues related to the content of the concepts of “quality of education”, “quality of the educational process”, “educational technologies”, “teaching technologies”, “educational technologies” served as the basis for further improvement of the scientific and methodological support for the organization of work in the disciplines of the department.

According to the topic of the department’s research, the general direction of scientific research at the university, in particular the activities of the Research Center “Education Quality Management” of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, special attention is paid to the study of theoretical and methodological foundations of ensuring the quality of higher education, the use of educational technologies of various levels to ensure the quality of educational work with students in the educational space of a modern university. Attention is also paid to improving the forms and methods of independent work of students, undergraduates, and postgraduates in terms of in-class work and out-of-class work.

The research infrastructure within the complex topic of scientific activities of the Department of Pedagogy includes the scientific research activities of lecturers, supervision of dissertation research, master’s and student research papers. Over the past 5 years, the department’s researchers have published 2 individual monographs. Scientists took part in 7 collective monographs. More than 230 articles and abstracts have been published.

Research and creative work with students is a mandatory part of the process of scientific, methodological and professional training of future teachers and higher education lecturers, aimed at improving the theoretical and practical training of specialists in the field of education, the ability to work with literature, research, analyze, systematize, summarize pedagogical and scientific experience, and conduct scientific and pedagogical research under the guidance of a lecturer. Academic research work allows students to: systematize theoretical knowledge in relevant pedagogical disciplines, check its quality, improve scientific and creative thinking skills, develop cognitive activity, analyze and compare different approaches to solving a particular pedagogical problem. Higher education students of the Department of pedagogy take an active part in all scientific events of the department, are also involved in the organization and holding of Science Days, publish their works in scientific publications for young scientists, and participate in conferences of various levels.


Publishing activities of the department

The Department of Pedagogy publishes the scientific journal “Education and Pedagogical Sciences”.

   

The journal “Education and Pedagogical Sciences” is a professional publication (category “B”) (Decree of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine No. 886 of 02.07.2020 (Appendix No. 4) in pedagogical sciences (011 – Educational, pedagogical sciences, 012 – Preschool education, 013 – Primary education, 014 – Secondary education (by subject specialties), 015 – Vocational education (by specializations).

Social and humanitarian work

As part of its social and humanitarian work, the Department of Pedagogy holds various events with students of the first (bachelor’s) and second (master’s) levels of higher education. The main areas of this work are:

  • promoting the development of a sense of patriotism and respect for Ukrainian cultural and historical values among higher education students (virtual tours “Starobilsk: from love for the native land to the greatness of Ukraine”; virtual literary and regional natural history tour “Luhansk region – the dawn song of Ukraine”);
  • preserving and developing a corporate culture based on the best traditions and achievements of the university (discussion “Modern teacher of the New Ukrainian School is a spiritual guide of the people”; virtual discussion on the topic: “Corporate culture is an integral part of the University’s image”);

Representatives of the Department of Pedagogy are members of the University’s Social and Humanitarian Commission. With the involvement of Department’s representatives, the Concept of social and humanitarian work of the State Institution “Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University”; Regulations on the curator of the group of higher education seekers of the State Institution “Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University”; Regulations on the organization of the activities of curators of the State Institution “Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University”and etc were developed.
