Participation in the Project "Cultural Map of a New Home. Digitization and Preservation of the Intangible Heritage of the Milove Community"
Students Valeria Ilnytska and Viktoria Makarenko became participants in the project, which is implemented by the NGO "IMPACT CENTER SKHID.UA" in partnership with the Milove settlement military administration and the Department of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports of the Milove settlement council with the support of the International Renaissance Foundation.
The program was dedicated to the study of intangible cultural heritage (ICH) as a living resource in the context of social change. The training covered theoretical foundations, ethical standards and digital tools for recording traditions.
As part of the program, the participants mastered the methodology of field research and interviews, in particular journalistic communication techniques and a historical and archaeological approach to the analysis of oral memories. They also took part in a field session to the ethnopark "Polonyna Pertsi", where they practically practiced the skills of digital recording of intangible cultural heritage objects in the field.
Special attention was paid to the ethics and psychological resilience of the researcher. The participants studied the specifics of working with vulnerable categories of the population, in particular internally displaced persons, according to the principle of “do no harm”, and also got acquainted with the techniques of building a trusting dialogue within the framework of a “sensitive interview”. In addition, they mastered methods of preventing emotional burnout and self-help techniques.
The participants also worked on the legal aspects of working with materials: copyright issues, obtaining consent for filming, and the principles of archiving collected data. An important component was the study of the potential of cultural heritage as a tool of resistance and its popularization through modern digital platforms, in particular TikTok and Instagram.
We express our sincere gratitude to the team of the NGO “IMPACT CENTER SKHID.UA”, the International Renaissance Foundation and representatives of the Milove community for the high level of organization of training and the opportunity for professional development provided.
