Law of Ukraine on Academic Integrity: Introducing Participants in the Educational Process to the New Legislation
On September 15, 2026, the first session of the Academic Integrity School was held in cooperation with the Department of Educational Activity Quality Management. The session was attended by heads of educational programmes, academic and teaching staff, and higher education students. The session supports the School’s main objective — systematically increasing awareness within the academic community of ethical standards and fostering a culture of academic integrity.
The speaker was Maksym Saibekov, PhD, Deputy Head of the Department of Educational Activity Quality Management. His presentation focused primarily on the new Law of Ukraine “On Academic Integrity” No. 4742-IX, adopted by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on December 18, 2025, and entering into force on July 31, 2026. This is the first separate law to comprehensively regulate academic integrity in Ukraine’s education and research system.
During the session, theoretical aspects of the legislation and the principles of academic integrity were reinforced with specific examples from educational practice and interactive activities. Particular attention was paid to different types of academic integrity violations, including academic plagiarism, self-plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, and the improper use of artificial intelligence-generated results, among others.
Considerable attention was also devoted to the mechanisms of liability for participants in the educational process and practical ways of complying with the requirements of the law in the University’s educational and research activities.
Marharyta Kravchenko, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Educational Activity Quality Management, joined the discussion. She emphasized that compliance with the Law of Ukraine “On Academic Integrity” is an essential component of ensuring the quality of education at the University and an important condition for successfully undergoing external independent evaluation of educational programmes.
Oksana Shevchyk, Deputy Head of the Academic Integrity School, introduced participants to the School’s programme and informed them about the opportunity to receive certificates upon completion of the course as part of non-formal education.
We thank all participants for their active engagement and interest. Together, we are building a strong culture of academic integrity!
