XIV Student Olympiad in Algebra
On April 14, at the Faculty of Technologies and Information Systems, as part of the science days and work of the algebra research group “Algebra Research Group” (ARG), a traditional student algebra Olympiad was held using the online service Google Meet, dedicated to the memory of the outstanding Ukrainian algebraist, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor Vitalii Mykhailovych Usenko. The scientist made a significant contribution to the development of algebra in the Luhansk region and Ukraine, working at our university from 2001 to 2006. At the initiative of Professor V. M. Usenko, in 2002, the world-famous mathematical journal “Algebra and Discrete Mathematics” was organized, which has been included in the international scientometric database Scopus since 2012, and in the Emerging Sources Citation Index (Web of Science) database since 2016, and currently this journal has the Q3 quartile according to Schimago Journal & Country Rank.
The opening remarks were made by representatives of the scientific school of algebra, doctors of physical and mathematical sciences, professors Yurii Zhuchok and Anatolii Zhuchok — students of professor V.M. Usenko, who defended their doctoral dissertations within the framework of this scientific school. The Olympiad was held in one round for students of mathematical specialties. The tasks offered to the students were of a general algebraic nature and related to such sections of mathematics as number theory, linear algebra, graph theory, semigroup theory and universal algebra. The winners of the Olympiad were: 1st year master's student of the specialty "Secondary education. Mathematics" Yevhen Kuryachyi (1st place), 3rd year student of the specialty "Secondary education. Mathematics. Physics" Anastasia Oropai (2nd place) and 4th year student majoring in "Secondary education. Mathematics. Physics" Olena Tetereshchenko (3rd place).
Congratulations to the winners and we wish them all the best in their future endeavors!
