Nationwide Open Physical Education Lesson
124 educational institutions of various types from across Ukraine, along with 2,609 students, joined the initiative! This serves as clear evidence that modern physical education unites educators and children around the themes of health, physical activity, creativity, and positive emotions.
The event took place as part of the "Engaging Physical Education 3.0 — A New Reality" project, implemented by the Faculty of Health Care and Sports in collaboration with the NGO "Ukrainian Federation 'Sport for Development'." The practical training of Master’s students specializing in A4.11 Secondary Education (Physical Education) significantly strengthens the practice-oriented focus of the Master’s-level academic program in Secondary Education (Physical Education).
Representatives of the university, educators, and organizers joined the event. Lesson Topic: "A Hawaiian Adventure for Class 5-Ya!" On this day, the sports hall transformed into a genuine Hawaiian island! Dressed in themed costumes, leis, and masks, the children embarked on a journey filled with movement, team challenges, and creativity. The participants enjoyed a lively warm-up, a coconut hunt, team relay races, creative tasks involving sand and water, and balance exercises using surfboards. The lesson concluded with a group reflection around a "parachute" (a large, colorful play canopy), the presentation of symbolic "Hawaiian passports" and commemorative bookmarks, and a photo session to capture the memories.
What makes a lesson like this special? Physical education evolves from mere exercise into a space for developing coordination, balance, motor skills, teamwork, creative thinking, and emotional intelligence. This activity-based, game-oriented, and child-centered approach aligns with the principles of the "New Ukrainian School" (NUS) reform. The children didn't just move -they collaborated, made decisions, supported one another, created, and shared their experiences. The ultimate outcome? Genuine smiles, keen engagement, and an eagerness to keep moving! Sincere thanks to the organizers, the gymnasium administration, academic and teaching staff, colleagues, university students, and the pupils themselves for their collaboration, professional exchange, and inspiration!
