Marking Siverskyi Donets Day
Representatives of our University participated in a research and practical conference dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Siverskyi Donets Day — a major waterway of eastern Ukraine. The event brought together water-sector specialists, researchers, educators, government representatives, and members of the public around this year’s key message: “Siverskyi Donets: Where There Is Water, There Is a Future!”
Nataliia Matsai, Dean of the Faculty of Natural and Agrarian Sciences, and Halyna Yevtushenko, Head of the Department of Biology and Agronomy, delivered a substantial joint presentation. It focused on the important issue of studying the biodiversity of springs and wells, which is an essential component of monitoring and preserving the ecological condition of the entire Siverskyi Donets basin system.
Particular attention at the event was devoted to European integration processes in the field of water quality, environmental-security challenges during wartime, and the development of environmental education and environmental awareness among young people. The conference also included the results of the 20th-anniversary creative competition “Siverskyi Donets Through the Eyes of Young People,” held with the support of international partners.
The participation of our representatives in such large-scale basin initiatives once again demonstrates the University’s significant contribution to environmental protection, scientific support for environmental security, and the creation of a sustainable future for Ukraine.
