The academic event was held within the educational component “Foreign Language for Professional Purposes” for higher education applicants of the 3d and 4th years of the first (bachelor’s) level of the educational program “TV Presenter”, specialty 021 “Audiovisual Art and Production”, educational program “Fine art” specialty 023 “Fine Art, Decorative Art, Restoration”, educational program “Musical Art” specialty 014 “Secondary Education”, educational program “Musical Art” specialty 025 “Musical Art”, educational program “Choreography” specialty 024 “Choreography”, educational program “Graphic Design” specialty 022 “Design”.
The lecture was competently constructed in accordance with all methodological requirements and was distinguished by a clear structure and logical sequence of presentation of the material: topic, plan, goal, tasks, relevance, main provisions, conclusions. The topic is relevant because it contributes to the development of communicative competence of higher education students, forms professional writing skills and increases the level of language literacy, and ensures mastery of the norms of intercultural communication. The importance and significance of the topic is also due to the growing role of English as a global means of professional interaction; the development of international exchange programs (academic mobility); the expansion of opportunities for education and employment, advanced training, etc.
During the class, there were considered the key aspects of English writing in professional communication, in particular, written speech as a means of professional communication was highlighted; the development of its skills in English classes and supporting aspects of improvement were outlined; genres of professional self-presentation were represented (resume, cover letter, motivation letter). The lecturer paid special attention to defining basic definitions, the structure of professional self-presentation texts, tips for creating them and the possibilities of using them, as well as outlining typical mistakes that should be avoided in the writing process. The combination of theoretical provisions with practical examples and exercises ensured the effective perception of the educational material. Participants had the opportunity not only to familiarize themselves with current approaches to written communication, but also to complete interactive tasks aimed at consolidating the knowledge gained.
Such lecture is an important stage in the training of modern specialists, as it provides not only language training, but also forms readiness for effective English professional communication.
