Guest Lecture by Vadym Chepizhenko
The lecture was organized by Yehor Brailian, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of History and Archaeology, as part of the course “History of Western Europe and North America”. Brailian teaches this course for students majoring in “Secondary Education. History and Civic Education”.
Vadym Chepizhenko – Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Archaeology, Ethnology and World History, Head of the Center for Ancient and Medieval Studies of the I. I. Mechnikov Odesa National University, Associate Professor of the Department of World History of the Oles Honchar Dnipro National University.
The historian focused his attention in the story on the internal political struggle in England of the late Middle Ages. Chepizhenko emphasized the role of wise advice as an element of the political culture of the medieval monarch. In the 14th-15th centuries. there were two parallel processes: the growth of the influence of the English Parliament (the latter was divided into the House of Lords and the House of Commons) and the strengthening of the monarch's power. The barons were the political force that weakened the monarch's influence.
The lecture was accompanied by visual content, in particular, portraits of English works and modern mass culture, in particular the TV series "Game of Thrones".
Vadym Chepizhenko also explained the nuances of the confrontation between different dynasties in England of the 14th-15th centuries, the apogee of which was the War of the Roses of 1455-1485.
The guest lecture of the medievalist contributed to a better understanding of political processes in England and medieval Europe of the 14th-15th centuries. and is an effective example of involving specialists in the history of the Middle Ages for a comprehensive vision of the interpretation of the past.
