The University Community Celebrated the 35th Anniversary of the Constitution of Ukraine
The event brought together academic staff, higher education students, and representatives of student self-government. During the meeting, participants explored the historical background to the adoption of the Constitution of Ukraine, its role in the evolution of Ukrainian statehood, and the significance of constitutional principles for safeguarding human rights and freedoms, supporting the operation of democratic institutions, and reinforcing the rule of law.
The teachers of the Department of Political Science and International Relations addressed the attendees with welcoming remarks, emphasizing the special role of the Constitution as the foundation of the national legal system and a symbol of Ukraine’s state sovereignty. Particular attention was paid to the relevance of constitutional values in the context of contemporary challenges, especially during the period of the Ukrainian people’s struggle for independence, territorial integrity, and the democratic development of the state.
Anton Vasylovych Bader, Doctor of Political Sciences and Professor, delivered a thematic lecture-discussion entitled ‘The Constitution of Ukraine: 30 Years on the Path to Establishing Democracy and the Rule of Law.’ During the event, participants had the opportunity to discuss key stages in Ukraine’s constitutional development, issues related to the protection of human rights, the principles of separation of powers, and prospects for further improvement of the constitutional process.
Students actively participated in the discussion of current issues of state-building, demonstrating a high level of civic awareness, legal culture, and interest in the challenges facing the development of modern Ukraine.
The organization of such events contributes to fostering respect for the Constitution of Ukraine among young people, promoting democratic values, developing legal culture, and educating responsible citizens capable of understanding their role in building a strong, independent, and European Ukraine.
