Participation in the Opening of the Exhibition "The Beginning of Resistance: Defense of Luhansk Airport"
On June 15, 2026, Anastasia Mykolaivna Petrushkova, a lecturer at the Foreign Languages Department, participated in the opening of the exhibition “The Beginning of Resistance: Defense of Luhansk Airport”, organized by the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance based on documentary chronicles. The event was held in the city of Kyiv on Kontraktova Square.
Many Luhansk residents gathered on this day to pay tribute to the defenders of Luhansk Airport, who held the defense almost completely surrounded for 146 days. Those present remembered those who fought until their last breath, as well as those who continue to defend Ukraine in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine today. The participants of the event recalled that for Luhansk Oblast, the war began back in 2014, and recalled the actions in support of Ukrainian statehood that were carried out by residents of the region, resisting Russian aggression.
Teacher Anastasia Mykolaivna Petrushkova managed to obtain an English-language copy of the documentary chronicle “In the Ring of Fire: The Defense of Luhansk Airport” from the hands of one of its authors, Anastasia Glotova. In this book, a team of volunteers collected the memories of more than 140 participants and eyewitnesses of the events – military personnel, volunteers, local residents, law enforcement officers and airport workers, and medics. The publication also contains unique photographs and maps illustrating military operations around the airport.
The book is both a documentary evidence and a symbol of the Ukrainian Luhansk region, demonstrating the high value of Ukrainian resistance. According to Anastasia Mykolayivna, this chronicle is an important tool for covering events for foreign partners and colleagues and helps convey the truth about Ukraine's struggle to the international community.
