Grant to Research the Impact of Military Operations on the Environment
For the second year, the U.S. Institute for International Education has supported young scientists from Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University who are studying and working in Ukraine and researching the impact of military operations on the environment. This year, the scholarship recipients are Viktoriia Borysenko, a 1st-year student majoring in Earth Sciences, and Yulia Formaziuk, a 4th-year student majoring in Ecology, supervised by Inna Tymchenko, Associate Professor of the Department of Ecology and Landscape Gardening.
The Ukraine Future Leaders Research Scholarship program financially supports young scientists who live in Ukraine, study at Ukrainian universities and conduct research on the consequences of military operations and the restoration of territories affected by the war, and contribute to improving the professionalism and knowledge of young people for the further reconstruction of the country after the war.
The scholarship program plans to conduct research on the impact of military operations on the soils of frontline communities in Zaporizhia and Mykolaiv regions, analyze the impact of generators on the health of people in the Myrhorod community, conduct theoretical research, field work, laboratory and instrumental analysis of soil samples, and teach GIS and professional English. The results of the research will be tested at All-Ukrainian and International scientific and practical conferences.
