Conversation about Media with Radio Charter at LTSNU
On March 13, 2026, Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University hosted a meeting and an open conversation with Ukrainian writer, translator, musician and public figure Serhii Zhadan — “A Conversation about Media with Radio Charter.” The event was held as part of the Radio Charter tour with the support of the Embassy of the Netherlands in Ukraine.
The event took place at the Veteran Development Center of LTSNU and brought together the university administration, teachers, students of various departments of our university, as well as students of the Academic Lyceum named after the Shemet Brothers, the Academic Lyceum “European” and the Gymnasium named after the Hero of Ukraine Vira Roik.
The meeting was organized by the Rector of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University Olena Karaman and candidate of historical sciences, associate professor of the Department of History and Archaeology of the Faculty of Social and Humanitarian Sciences Yehor Brailian.
“Radio Charter” is an independent online media, founded in 2024 by Serhiy Zhadan together with a team of specialists in cultural and media management. Part of the project team is military personnel. The idea of creating a mobile online radio originated with Serhii Zhadan even before the full-scale invasion, when he worked at the volunteer radio “Tryzub FM”. The name of the media project is associated with the 13th brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine “Charter”.
During the meeting, Serhii Zhadan introduced his team, talked with the participants about modern media, the role of information in wartime, and the importance of an honest and responsible word. They talked about current events, dissected modern media myths, while seriously analyzing important social processes.
The atmosphere of the meeting was complemented by the music of the Ukrainian rock band “Zhadan and Dogs”, whose frontman is Serhii Zhadan. He noted:
“Radio “Charter” is a radio of resistance and love. Like our broadcasts, the events of the tour are a combination of voices and stories. This is how the country sounds, this is how today sounds.”
At the end of the meeting, the rector of the university, Olena Karaman, thanked the guests for the important meeting and conversation and presented Serhii Zhadan with the symbolic amulet of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University — a symbol of the Great Kobzar, whose name the university proudly bears.
Such meetings are of extremely important importance for the university community. They create a space for open dialogue, the development of critical thinking, and the formation of a modern media culture for youth. It is through such initiatives that the university becomes a platform for uniting education, culture and civil society.
This is also an important step in developing partnerships, supporting freedom of speech and forming an active civic position of the younger generation. Such events help to build the future of Ukraine together in the space of democratic and European values, where education, culture and truth are the foundation of the country’s recovery and development.
