Career Guidance Workshop
Recently, the Career Development Center, together with library staff and practicing teachers, held a career guidance master class “Become Noticeable: How to Present Yourself and Write a Resume,” which was held in the library. The event was aimed at supporting students in preparing for employment, developing skills for effective self-presentation, and confidently passing interviews with employers. The organizer and moderator of the event was the head of the Career Development Center, LARYSA KOCHURA.
At the beginning of the meeting, a presentation of the activities of the Career Development Center was held, during which participants learned more about the opportunities and services that the Center offers to students. The main areas of work of the Career Development Center were presented, including consulting on building a professional trajectory, assistance in creating a resume, preparation for interviews, as well as support in finding internship and employment opportunities. Special attention was paid to the importance of self-development and continuous learning, as well as to the resources of the library, where participants could learn about literature on the topics of leadership, effective communication, teamwork and professional development.
The main part of the master class was devoted to the practical aspects of creating a quality resume and building a convincing self-presentation. Together with the participants, the structure of a modern resume, its key sections and principles of presenting information were examined in detail. Particular attention was paid to how to talk about one’s own experience and skills honestly, but at the same time confidently and profitably for oneself – without exaggeration, but also without excessive modesty, which often prevents candidates from showing their strengths.
During the discussion, the participants considered one of the most common interview questions – “Tell me about yourself”. It was analyzed what information the employer actually expects to hear and how to structure the answer so that it is short, logical and at the same time meaningful. The meeting also discussed the psychological aspects of self-presentation, including typical mistakes of candidates, internal barriers and common “traps” that may arise when communicating with a potential employer.
A separate block of the master class was dedicated to the topic of anxiety before an interview. The head of the Career Development Center shared simple but effective techniques that help to better control emotions and reduce stress levels. Participants were introduced to grounding techniques, breathing exercises and techniques for forming “anchors of confidence” that help to quickly restore internal balance and focus during important conversations.
The most active and lively part of the event was practical work. Participants had the opportunity to try themselves in the format of mini-self-presentations: they briefly introduced themselves to the audience, after which they received constructive feedback from other participants and the presenter. This format allowed them to better understand how the audience perceives them, and also helped them see their own strengths and identify areas for further development.
Larysa Kochura thanks all participants for their activity, openness to new knowledge, and interest in developing their own professional skills. Such events help students better navigate the modern labor market, build self-confidence, and take the first steps toward building a successful career.
