Practical Class in the Course “Economics of Territorial Communities”
As part of their price-monitoring exercise, the students calculated the average cost of a basic food basket for residents of the Myrhorod urban territorial community. The basket cost UAH 585 and included the following products:
sliced bread (0.5 kg);
eggs (10);
pasteurised milk (0.9 l);
buckwheat (1 kg);
butter (82% fat, 180 g);
premium-grade wheat flour (1 kg);
refined vegetable oil (0.8 l);
pasta (1 kg).
The students also compared the cost of the food basket in Ukraine with prices in other countries, including Germany, where one of the students lives. According to her calculations, a basket containing comparable products costs approximately UAH 1,600 in Germany.
This format of practical class helps students deepen their knowledge of economics, develop critical thinking skills, and collect material for future academic research.
We thank the Armed Forces of Ukraine for the opportunity to study.
