As part of their Ukrainian history lesson, students of the Brianka Professional College watched the film Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra: Interesting Facts from History and took part in a discussion about lesser-known and fascinating facts concerning the construction of the Lavra and the everyday life of monks from ancient times to the present day.

In 2026, the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra marks its 975th anniversary.

The Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra is recognized as an important Ukrainian religious and cultural site and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Lavra was founded in 1051 under Yaroslav the Wise by the monk Anthony. It is considered one of the earliest monasteries of Kyivan Rus. Prince Sviatoslav granted the monastery the plateau above the caves. In 1062, the first church was built on the site of what is now the main cathedral. Theodosius became the monastery's abbot and introduced the communal Studite Rule. In 1073, construction began on a stone church, which was consecrated in 1089.

The monastic complex will celebrate its millennium in 2051.

The event took place in an atmosphere of openness, sincerity, and mutual support.
