Guest Lecture on Topical Issues of Intercultural Communication
The lecture focused on current issues of mutual understanding between representatives of different cultures, the role of language as a tool for dialogue, and the challenges faced by participants in intercultural communication. Particular attention was paid not only to understanding the meaning of an utterance but also to its emotional tone, non-verbal signals, and cultural connotations, all of which contribute to the completeness of a communicative act.
Participants showed particular interest in the part of the lecture devoted to analysing non-verbal signals and gestures that can be perceived differently across cultures.
The examples presented by the lecturer demonstrated how important it is to take cultural context into account in order to avoid misunderstandings in intercultural communication.
The meeting was an important step in developing the intercultural competence of students of the Department of Foreign Languages and confirmed that language and non-verbal means of communication are key to mutual understanding and effective international cooperation.
