Guest Lecture by Professor Serhii Komarov for phd Students in Philology
The topic of the lecture – «Types of Film Adaptations. A New Reading» – sparked significant interest, as the reimagining of classical and contemporary texts through the lens of cinematography is one of the most relevant areas of modern literary studies. The meeting took place at the initiative and invitation of the Guarantor of the «Philology» educational-scientific program, Doctor of Philological Sciences, and Professor of the Department of Literary Studies and Oriental Philology, Olha Kryzhanovska. The purpose of the lecture was to deepen the knowledge of young researchers regarding intermediality, the specifics of transforming literary plots into visual images, and the analysis of modern strategies for «new readings» of well-known works.
The lecture was conducted in the format of an active dialogue. Serhii Komarov provided a detailed classification of adaptation types – ranging from direct illustration to radical authorial interpretation. The postgraduate students were particularly active during the discussion, with questions covering both methodological aspects of film text research and specific examples from the modern film industry. In particular, the following students participated in the discussion Maksym Tkachenko, Anton Kozlov, Iryna Skliarova, Roman Maksymuk, Stanislav Andreiev, Oleksandr Kaliberda, and others. «Such events allow PhD students not only to broaden their scientific horizons but also to discover new perspectives for their own dissertation research at the intersection of literature and visual arts», noted Professor Olha Kryzhanovska.
We express our sincere gratitude to the distinguished lecturer for an insightful presentation and for providing inspiration for future scientific endeavors!
