Guest Lecture by a Practicing Specialist
The guest lecture which was conducted by the director of LLC “NVC “Ecopark”, Master of Public Finance Oksana Anatoliivna Sokolova.
During the meeting, the lecturer shared with the students practical experience in organizing and developing a business in the field of growing garden and ornamental plants. In her report, she emphasized that the basis of effective production is high-quality planting material and the use of modern varieties, because it is these factors that determine the success of the nursery business.
Oksana Anatoliivna drew attention to current trends in the development of the garden plant market. According to her, the demand for planting material is steadily growing, which is associated with the active creation of new fruit and berry and ornamental plantations. The ornamental plant market in Europe is showing steady positive dynamics, and horticulture and nursery production remain promising areas of business activity.
The lecturer paid special attention to the economic aspects of creating and operating a garden center. Students learned about the key stages of organizing such a business:
determining specialization and target audience;
choosing the optimal location;
developing a realistic business plan;
obtaining the necessary permits;
forming the assortment and organizing sales;
creating and promoting a trademark;
working with personnel and building effective business processes;
planning economic activities taking into account seasonality.
The technological aspects of growing plants were separately considered: the use of professional fertilizers, the importance of proper pruning and shaping plants, as well as the features of working with different types of planting material.
The guest lecture aroused considerable interest among students, as it combined theoretical knowledge with real experience in doing business in the field of nursery and ornamental horticulture. Participants had the opportunity to ask questions, discuss current market trends and receive valuable advice on professional development.
