Charity Walking Tour of Poltava Reveals Lesser-Known Pages of the City’s History
The tour was led by Artur Aroian, Associate Professor of the Department of Fine and Decorative Arts and Crafts and PhD in Architecture. He was assisted by Mykyta Byshovets, a fourth-year student.
The event was organised by the Diakonia Charitable Foundation.
During the tour, participants had an opportunity to discover Poltava from a new perspective, learn lesser-known facts about the city’s history, explore distinctive features of its architecture, and view familiar places through the lens of historical events and cultural heritage.
Such initiatives have not only an educational but also an important social dimension. They help people who have experienced forced displacement adapt to a new environment, develop a stronger connection with the city where they currently live, find new sources of support, and establish meaningful social connections.
The participation of university lecturers and students in initiatives of this kind is another example of how knowledge, professional expertise, and a commitment to helping others can become an important source of support for people facing difficult circumstances.
Poltava reveals itself in a special way when its history is shared with warmth, knowledge, and a genuine desire to support those around us.
