International activities are one of the strategic priorities for the development of the State Institution “Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University” and an important instrument for improving the quality of education, research, and the University’s societal impact.
Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University is a multidisciplinary Ukrainian university with more than a century of history, combining academic traditions with openness to innovation, interdisciplinary cooperation, and international partnership. Despite forced relocations in 2014 and 2022, the University has preserved its institutional capacity, human resources and research potential, ensured continuity of the educational process, and continued to develop international ties. This experience has shaped the University’s unique expertise in institutional resilience, education in crisis and displacement contexts, restoring human potential, social cohesion, and community development.
The purpose of the University’s international activities is full integration into the European Higher Education Area and the European Research Area; strengthening international presence and academic reputation; bringing the best global practices into educational, research, and managerial activities; and building long-term partnerships focused on the joint creation of knowledge, innovation, and socially significant solutions.
Priority Areas of International Activities
International cooperation of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University includes:
developing strategic partnerships with foreign universities, research institutions, research infrastructures, international organizations, foundations, public authorities, civil society, and business;
preparing and implementing international educational, research, innovation, and socially oriented projects;
participating in European Union programmes and other international initiatives, including Horizon Europe, Erasmus+, COST, and programmes supporting Ukrainian education, science, and institutional recovery;
developing academic mobility for students, teaching staff, researchers, and administrative personnel;
launching joint degree programmes, study modules, certificate programmes, summer schools, visiting courses, and dual-degree programmes;
conducting joint research, scientific events, expert consultations, preparing collective publications, and participating in international research networks;

The University’s interdisciplinary potential makes it possible to combine fundamental and applied research, educational innovation, expert and analytical activities, and practical work with communities. Internationalisation of the Educational Environment
The University consistently develops internationalisation not only through physical mobility, but also directly within the educational process. International experience, results of joint research, modern foreign methodologies, and an intercultural component are integrated into educational programmes. Attention is paid to developing global, language, digital, intercultural, and entrepreneurial competences among students and staff. This enables members of the university community to interact effectively in an international environment, respond to global challenges, and remain competitive in the Ukrainian and international labour markets.

Coordination of International Activities
Coordination of international cooperation at the University is carried out by the International Relations Office.
The Office:
develops and supports the University’s international partnerships;
coordinates the conclusion and implementation of international agreements;
provides consultative support to structural units in preparing international projects;
facilitates participation of staff and students in academic mobility programmes;
coordinates cooperation with international students, teachers, and researchers;
supports the University’s international promotion and dissemination of its results;
facilitates the University’s participation in international networks, associations, rankings, and educational and research initiatives;
ensures communication with foreign partners, international organisations, and diplomatic missions.
