Support from the Embassy of France and the French Institute
21.11.2022
The Faculty of Foreign Languages received financial support for the development of the French language and French-speaking culture from the Embassy of France in Ukraine.
Educational programme “French language and literature” (note: the title of the educational programme during 2013-2021) for the first (bachelor’s) and second (master’s) levels of higher education has been successfully functioning at the Faculty of Foreign Languages for more than 20 years. The purpose of providing educational services within the framework of the educational programme is to provide training of specialists in Philology and secondary education who possess knowledge and practical skills of philological analysis with accentuation on French; according to the curriculum, students are offered academic subjects, the mastery of which ensures a targeted level of training, namely: French language, translation, history of the French language, linguistics, lexicology, theoretical grammar, stylistics, literature of French-speaking countries, teaching methods, etc.
The Faculty of Foreign Languages has a long history of interaction with representatives of French educational institutions, which dates back to the time before the first relocation of the University and the visit of its administration by Representatives of the Embassy of France in Ukraine. Bright examples of recent history are the organization and holding of the seminar “Modern Problems of Teaching French in Poltava and Poltava Region”, which took place on February 13, 2019, with the participation of the director of the “Alliance Française” organization, the teacher of French as a foreign language at the Sorbonne University, Timote de Maillard (https://luguniv.edu.ua/?p=42183); during the event, the issue of popularizing the French language in the city of Poltava and the Poltava region was discussed. Discussion was initiated on the development of a cooperation strategy between the cultural center “Alliance Française”, teachers of French-speaking secondary schools and teachers of the “Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University”. As part of the Year of the French Language in Ukraine 2018-2019, a dictation in French, attended not only by Ukrainian students, but also by foreign citizens was held on the Faculty of Foreign Languages (https://luguniv.edu.ua/?p=39139). In 2022, lecturers and students of the Faculty of Foreign Languages took part in a lecture by the French linguist, professor emeritus of the University of Paris XIII Patrick Charodeau, which was organized and conducted by the Department of Romance Philology of Kyiv Taras Shevchenko National University and the Association of French Language Teachers of Ukraine (https://luguniv.edu.ua/?p=91017).
Studying at the Faculty of Foreign Languages allows students to acquire knowledge of the French language at a high level, which makes it possible to pass the DELF / DALF, TCF, TEF / TEFAQ exams in Kyiv and in the regions of Ukraine. Therefore, the support from the Embassy of France in Ukraine and the French Institute, which was provided for the establishment of the Center for the Study of French Language and Culture on the basis of the Faculty of Foreign Languages of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University, is quite understandable.
The Faculty of Foreign Languages of State Institution “Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University” expresses its sincere gratitude to the Embassy of France in Ukraine for the desire to help and for the practical steps that have been taken to ensure this help! The significance of your support for the Faculty is enormous, because it clearly demonstrates to us the importance and importance of the work we do for students of the Faculty and for the whole of the academic community of the University.
