3.11.2025
On October 31, in accordance with the joint work plan of the Department of Education and Science of the Luhansk Regional State Administration and the Educational and Methodological Center for Vocational and Technical Education in the Luhansk Region, a regional online conference was held entitled «Language. Identity. Education: Interdisciplinary Dimensions in Conditions of Martial Law».
The aim of the conference was to highlight the role of the Ukrainian language as the basis of national identity, to seek interdisciplinary approaches to teaching humanities, and to exchange pedagogical experience on shaping civic consciousness in conditions of martial law.
Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University was represented at the conference by Iryna BOYTSUN, Associate Professor of the Department of Literary Studies, Eastern Philology, and Translation, Deputy Director for Academic Affairs at the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology and Journalism. In her speech, «Language Begins with Me», the lecturer focused the audience’s attention on three points: words are the code of creation, the Ukrainian language is the soul of the nation, and love for the language means speaking Ukrainian, studying it, and enriching one’s vocabulary. The graduates of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University proved the decisive role of the Ukrainian language in their lives.
Conference participants listened to presentations on «The Interdisciplinary Dimension of Language Education for Ukrainian Youth in Wartime» by Lyudmila YERSHOVA, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor at the Ukrainian Center for Dual Education; «Ukrainian Terminology: Repressed and Restored» by Inna ROMANTSOVA, Acting Director of the Rubizhne Industrial and Pedagogical College; «Language innovations in conditions of martial law and the fight against aggression» by Kirill Vakhnik, student at the Lysychansk Mining and Industrial College; «The Ukrainian language – a marker of resilience» by Natalia Chervyakova, teacher at the Zolotivsky Professional Lyceum.
Vladimir Artyushenko, Director of the Educational and Methodological Center for Vocational and Technical Education in the Luhansk region, summed up the conference by emphasizing the importance of studying and promoting the Ukrainian language among young people.
Our native language is our genetic code, our weapon, and our strength. Let us not be afraid to speak it, sing it, and think it. Let us make it alive, strong, and omnipresent.
Don’t wait for someone else to start talking. I’ll start talking!
