The plenary session, which was held on the basis of the State Educational Institution “Bakhmut Center for Vocational and Technical Education”, which is now relocated to the village of Goshcha, Rivne region, brought together more than 100 participants from all regions of Ukraine.
The event was joined online by a representative of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University, Petro VORONA – Doctor of Public Administration, Professor, Professor of the Social Pedagogy Department of LTSNU, Head of the Public Organization “Defense of the State” in the Poltava Region, and a participant in hostilities.
In his meaningful report “The Problem of Participation of Public Organizations in National Resistance and National-Patriotic Education”, Petro Vasylovych Vorona emphasized that national-patriotic education is the basis for the defense of the Ukrainian state.
He emphasized:
“We are deeply aware that in times of war, national-patriotic education is not only a component of state policy, but also a matter of Ukraine’s survival and victory.”
Among Petro Vorona’s key proposals:
- to recognize the priority of national-patriotic education in education and to establish systematic cooperation with veteran and volunteer organizations;
- to perpetuate the memory of the fallen Heroes-graduates in every educational institution;
- to actively involve war veterans in the educational process, to create centers of national-patriotic education on the basis of museums of liberation struggles;
- to free the educational sphere from Soviet narratives and strengthen the training of teachers in the spirit of Ukrainian statehood;
- to develop a network of military-sports clubs and programs for youth at the state level;
- to deepen cooperation between the authorities, military and public structures, eliminating bureaucratic barriers.
The speaker paid special attention to the problems of the veteran movement, in particular the issue of post-traumatic stress disorder, the need for professional psychological assistance and social adaptation of defenders after returning from the front.
“A veteran should feel respect not only on holidays. The authorities and society should constantly engage in a dialogue with him – this is the basis of the stability of the state,” the professor emphasized.
Petro Vorona concluded his speech with a call for unity, emphasizing that the Ukrainian nation is strong when it preserves spiritual unity, identity, and the memory of its struggle.
National and patriotic education is the main guideline of the activities of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University. It is through education, the cultivation of historical memory, and the upbringing of youth in the spirit of love for the Motherland that the university sees its contribution to the future of Ukraine.
