Master Class “Ukrainian Knotted Toy”
21.8.2025
Recently, the Department of Fine and Decorative Arts held a master class “Ukrainian Knotted Toy” for students of the department.
The event was conducted by the head of the department, associate professor, candidate of pedagogical sciences Natalia Mykolaiivna Dihtiar. During the master class, students had the opportunity not only to get acquainted with the traditional methods of creating knotted toys, but also to try to make them themselves.
The Ukrainian knotted toy is not just an element of folk art, but a deep cultural symbol. It has several important functions:
- serves as a talisman, because it has long been believed that knots protect against evil forces and carry good energy;
- performs an aesthetic and educational role, forming a love for folk art and traditions;
- is a therapeutic practice, because the process of creating a toy calms, develops attention, fine motor skills and creative thinking;
- helps to feel the connection between generations, because knotted toys are part of the Ukrainian cultural heritage.
Such master classes allow students not only to develop professional skills, but also to become more aware of the importance of Ukrainian decorative and applied arts in modern life.
Sincere gratitude to Natalia Mykolaivna Dihtiar for preserving and popularizing Ukrainian traditions and for giving students the opportunity to touch the living culture of our people!
