Journalists from LTSNU at a Webinar on AI and Security in the Media

The Journalism Department of the ER IPJ participated in a webinar on AI and security in the media.
On August 14, 2025, the Journalism Department of the Educational and Research Institute of Philology and Journalism of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University took part in a large-scale and informative webinar of the NGO “Women in Media” in cooperation with the National Council of Ukraine on Television and Radio Broadcasting, with the support of UNESCO and Japan. The topic of the event was “Artificial Intelligence in the Work of the Media: OSINT Tools, Fact-Checking, Policies and Protection from Online Attacks”.
The webinar lasted almost four hours and brought together specialists, media experts, students and teachers of journalism from all over Ukraine.
Maksym Onoprienko, member of the National Council of Ukraine on Television and Radio Broadcasting, and Liza Kuzmenko, head of the NGO “Women in Media”, member of the Commission on Journalistic Ethics, delivered welcoming remarks.
Daria Verbytska, CEO and co-founder of Molfar Intelligence Institute, presented a comprehensive overview of artificial intelligence tools that help in collecting and verifying information, including:
- AI-based data aggregators about individuals;
- people search by photo;
- image verification for generation using AI;
- account analysis for fakeness;
- monitoring of publications in media and social networks;
- detection of gender-based violence using AI against female journalists, activists and politicians.
Maksym Onoprienko spoke about the media regulator’s position on the use of AI in the media sector, and Oleh Dubno, manager of the AI department of the Ministry of Digital Information of Ukraine, shared advice on the responsible use of artificial intelligence.
Anastasia Korinovska, editor and product manager of Suspilne.media, explained why each editorial office should develop its own policy on working with AI, and gave an example of the standards of “Suspilne”.
A special emphasis was placed by Lisa Kuzmenko, revealing the topic “Exposing technologically driven gender violence in the era of generative AI: Ukrainian examples”.
The event was concluded by an interactive session “Questions and Answers”. Students of the Journalism Department actively participated, asked relevant and professional questions, discussed real cases and looked for practical solutions. The webinar was very useful, relevant and inspiring for them, as it provided:
- modern knowledge about technologies without which a journalist of the future will not be able to work;
- practical OSINT tools for fact-checking and combating fakes;
- understanding the risks and mechanisms of protection against online attacks;
- awareness of ethical standards and policies for working with AI in the media.
Such events help today’s future journalists of LTSNU to be one step ahead, combine professional skills with the latest technologies and work responsibly in the digital age.
