Inna Hurzhii – Participant of the Ceramics Residency in Opishne
7.8.2025
Inna Hurzhii, senior lecturer of the Department of Fine and Decorative Arts, is a participant in the ceramic residency in Opishne.
In the heart of the pottery capital of Ukraine, in Opishne, a unique artistic event took place at the National Museum of Pottery: a three-week ceramic residency dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Ukrainian ceramist Vasyl Onufrievich Omelianenko. Among the five invited ceramic artists who had the honor of working in this creative open-air workshop was Inna Hurzhii — a senior lecturer of the Department of Fine and Decorative Arts of LTSNU, a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.
As part of the residency, Inna Hurzhii created a monumental ceramic sculpture “The Wonderful World of Wild Beasts,” which became a true embodiment of the author’s imagination and a symbolic tribute to the clay tradition. Her work is distinguished by its plastic expressiveness, originality of image and deep symbolism, which resonates with folklore motifs and modern artistic vision.
The fantastic creatures that appeared in clay from under the artist’s hands are not just images. They are metaphors of the inner world, intuition, emotions and secrets of nature. Her sculpture seems to invite the viewer into her own “wild beast” cosmos, where reality is intertwined with legends and dreams.
Thanks to the inspired work of the participants of the ceramic residency, the museum’s courtyard has turned into a real open gallery of modern ceramic sculpture, where each exhibit is an artistic bridge between tradition and modernity.
Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University is sincerely proud of the talent and achievements of Inna Hurzhii. Her creative energy, deep understanding of Ukrainian ceramic heritage, and ability to breathe new life into clay are a vivid example of the power of art that lives and inspires!
