Students and staff joined in the opening of the commemorative exhibition “Art That Speaks of Struggle.”
On July 31, students and staff of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University joined the opening of the memorial exhibition “Art that Speaks of Struggle”, which took place in the fine arts gallery of the Lubny Local Lore Museum named after Hnat Stelletsky.
The exhibition is dedicated to the talented, creative person and public leader Oleksandr Ivanovych Kelym – an artist, photographer, activist, who with his creativity, wisdom and principled civic position left a deep mark in the history of Poltava region and Ukraine.
The initiator of this art cruise through Poltava region was Petro Vorona – Doctor of Science in Public Administration, Professor of the Social Pedagogy Department of LTSNU, Head of the Poltava Regional Branch of the NGO “Defense of the State”, a veteran and public figure known for his support of the military and active promotion of the ideas of defending Ukraine.
The event was permeated with memories of Oleksandr Kelym, his creative and public activities. Those present shared warm words, recalled his life path, creative energy and influence on the cultural life of the region.
The exhibition presents paintings, watercolors, photographs and three self-portraits of the master. His art has always been emotional, sincere and genuine. Canvases are the voice of the soul, photographs are witnesses of the era. Kelym’s works are full of the power of inspiration, unity and struggle for Ukrainian statehood, which inspires even today, in times when this struggle continues.
In his speech, Petro Vorona emphasized that Oleksandr Kelym was a direct participant in the formation of the Independence of Ukraine, the organizer and first chairman of the Poltava branch of the People’s Movement of Ukraine. He was remembered as a sincere, kind, and open person. The professor also noted:
“The exhibition in memory of Oleksandr Kelym is a real opportunity to realize what he fought for and what we defend today. His art is alive. His position is inspiring. His figure will forever remain in the history of Poltava and Ukraine!”
Petro Vasylovych shared a special story: on one of the walls of the gallery there is a painting presented to him by Oleksandr Kelym himself, which depicts Petro Vorona near his father’s house. He called this gift memorable and very dear to him.
Oleksandr Kelym is a man born with “Ukraine in his heart”. He left a deep mark in the memory of all who knew him: precise words, attentive gaze, indomitable spirit. For the people of Poltava, he is a symbol of courage, creativity, patriotism and civic dignity.
Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University is not only an educational institution, but also an active participant in cultural and public life. We are convinced that honoring the memory of outstanding personalities is the preservation of history, values and traditions that shape the consciousness of future generations. Such events inspire, foster respect for cultural heritage, and strengthen community unity.
LTSNU is open to cooperation, creativity, and preserving the memory of those who have proven their love for Ukraine through their lives and deeds.
