“Europe – Our Common Home”: Europe Day Celebration at the Department of Romance and Germanic Philology

On May 9, 2025, as part of the Europe Day celebrations, the Department of Romance and Germanic Philology held an online event titled “Europe – Our Common Home.”

The event brought together higher education students, university lecturers, schoolteachers, and pupils from the cities of Poltava, Kryvyi Rih, and the Poltava and Luhansk regions, as well as other guests who joined via Google Meet.

The aim of the event was to promote European values, showcase the cultural diversity of Europe, and highlight Ukraine’s aspiration for European integration.

The celebration was opened by Olha Yunina, PhD in Education, Associate Professor of the Department, who emphasized the importance of unity, democracy, human rights, and cultural exchange as the core values of the European community.

A warm welcome was also delivered by Dr. Natalia Yuhan, Acting Head of the Department of Romance and Germanic Philology, who underlined the significance of intercultural dialogue.

The program consisted of several informative segments. A video presentation on Europe Day by Vladyslav Nekrut, a 4th-year student majoring in Secondary Education (German and English Languages and Literatures), concluded with an interactive quiz.

Daria Fyl, a 3rd-year student majoring in Secondary Education (Spanish and English Languages and Literatures), shared her experience participating in the Erasmus+ program and spoke about the international projects she is involved in.

Yevhen Kharkovskyi, a faculty member, delivered a presentation in Spanish highlighting how Europe Day is celebrated in Spain.

Participants also had the opportunity to watch a video in German, prepared by Olha Blednova, senior lecturer, and student Vladyslav Nekrut.

Ivanka Mikhno, a 1st-year student majoring in Secondary Education (English Language and World Literature), presented an engaging comparative study in English titled “How Different Countries Celebrate Europe Day.”

A video in French by Viktoriia Skachkova, a 4th-year student majoring in Secondary Education (French and English Languages and Literatures), impressed the audience with her account of volunteering experiences within ESC programs in France.

At the end of the event, the host thanked all participants and emphasized that Ukraine is an integral part of the European community, and that the country’s future depends on our active involvement, willingness to learn, and readiness to take initiative.

This event truly became a celebration of cultural diversity, openness, and commitment to European values. We sincerely thank all participants for their inspiration, enthusiasm, and spirit of unity!
