Work of the Section “Education: Issues of Theory and Practice (Natural Sciences)”

Within the framework of the traditional Days of Science, the section “Education: Issues of Theory and Practice (Natural Sciences)” held a fruitful and meaningful work.

On April 24, the Institute of Natural and Agrarian Sciences hosted the section “Education: Issues of Theory and Practice (Natural Sciences)”. The Director of the Institute of Natural and Agrarian Sciences, Nataliia Matsai, addressed the audience with a welcoming speech.

Representatives of various educational institutions took part in the section, which allowed us to consider the issues of teaching natural sciences in a wide range: from initial interest in science to the introduction of innovative methods in high school. The involvement of international experience in the discussion was especially valuable, as a researcher from the University of Oulu (Finland) and senior lecturer of LTSNU Mykyto Peregrym. His speech emphasized the importance of early involvement of young people in scientific activities.

A significant part of the reports was devoted to innovative teaching methods and activation of students’ cognitive activity. Thus, Serhii V. Glotov, Candidate of Biological Sciences and participant of Ukrainian Antarctic expeditions, shared methods of studying and monitoring biodiversity, demonstrating the possibilities of practical application of scientific research in the educational process. The biology teacher Oksana Mykhailivna Chmil presented her experience of involving students in scientific research work in biology, emphasizing its importance for the formation of key competencies.

The possibilities of using modern information technologies in education were actively discussed. Iryna Melnyk, Associate Professor of the Department of Chemistry, Geography and Earth Sciences of LTSNU, presented two reports at once: on the practical aspects of using web mapping services for studying geographical nomenclature and on the potential of comics as a means of motivation in geography lessons.

Issues of an integrated approach and STEM education were also reflected in the reports. The geography teacher Oleksandr Liakh presented didactic materials “Smart Maps” as a tool for implementing an integrated approach, and biology teacher Hennadii Sharkyi shared valuable experience in implementing STEM education in science lessons.

Innovative pedagogical technologies were also in the spotlight. Considerable interest was aroused by the report of candidate Rostyslav Zahurskyi, who considered the practical application of artificial intelligence in teaching geography, which is extremely relevant in the context of modern technological trends.

The work of the section clearly demonstrated that natural sciences remain at the forefront of educational innovations. Participants left the event with a good mood and new ideas, expressing a desire to continue their own research and cooperation with colleagues.
