Chornobyl Tragedy Remembrance Day

The students of the ER IMIT and the ER IBM attended an event dedicated to the Day of Remembrance of the Chornobyl Tragedy.

April 26 is the International Day of Remembrance for the Chornobyl Tragedy and the International Day of Remembrance for Victims of Radiation Accidents and Catastrophes.

The students of the Educational and Research Institute of Mathematics and Information Technologies together with the Educational and Research Institute of Business and Management on April 24 attended a commemorative event dedicated to the tragedy at the Chornobyl NPP, which was prepared by the staff of the Children’s and Youth Library of the city of Myrhorod.

The bibliographer spoke about the events of that terrible night from April 25 to 26, 1986 – about the explosion at the fourth power unit of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant, which became the largest man-made disaster in the history of mankind.

As part of the event, excerpts from the memoirs of firefighters who survived were heard. These words deeply moved those present, because behind each line there was real human life, pain, fear and sacrifice. The evacuation of the inhabitants of Pripyat was mentioned – a city that became a ghost in a matter of hours. The students plunged into the atmosphere of Soviet life in the 80s, learned how the country lived on the eve of the disaster, how the system hid the truth, and at what cost millions were saved.

A bright memory to those who went into immortality, leaving sadness and pain in the hearts of Ukrainians. Honor and gratitude to the brave rescuers for their feat for the safety of current and future generations.
