World Book and Copyright Day at the ER IBM
25.4.2025
Students of the ER IBM learned about the history and traditions of celebrating World Book and Copyright Day in the world.
World Book and Copyright Day is celebrated annually on April 23, by decision of UNESCO dated November 15, 1995. The decision was made for the purpose of education, for the further development of awareness of cultural traditions, as well as taking into account the fact that books are the most important means of disseminating knowledge and the most reliable way of preserving it.
The online event at the Educational and Research Institute of Business and Management was held by Tania MARTYNENKO and Veronika VIUGINA – 3rd-year students of the educational program “Information, Library and Archival Affairs”. With the help of the information presentation they prepared, the staff and students of the institute learned about the history of the holiday and the traditions of celebrating World Book and Copyright Day in the world.
One of the traditions of World Book and Copyright Day is the selection of a city that will become the World Book Capital for a year and will hold events to promote literature and reading. UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay has decided to designate Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) as the World Book Capital for 2025.
We sincerely congratulate all book lovers, all those who respect and develop the printed word, on World Book and Copyright Day!
A book is not only a source of knowledge. It is easy access to the main human values, spiritual principles and creative achievements of all mankind.
Books are like a source from which we drink knowledge about the amazing world around us, about relationships between people, and about society in general.
“Whoever loves a book will go far in his development” (Taras Shevchenko)
