Among the bright figures of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University, a special place is occupied by Oleksandr Volodymyrovych DUBOVOI – a person who personifies strength, will, professionalism and a true calling to serve sports, education and society.

Master of Sports of international class, three-time European champion, three-time world champion in team competition, record holder of Ukraine and the world, international judge, candidate of pedagogical sciences, associate professor, director of the Educational and Research Institute of Health Care and Sports of LTSNU – each of these titles speaks of the high bar that Oleksandr Dubovoi holds and constantly raises.

AN ATHLETE WHO GLORIFIES UKRAINE

Oleksandr Volodymyrovych dedicated his life to power sports – primarily heroic all-around. His sports path is a story of hard work, victories and records. He has won 12 Ukrainian records and set 3 world records, and has also repeatedly represented Ukraine on the international stage, demonstrating with dignity the strength, endurance and fighting spirit of our nation.

In April 2025, in the city of Dnipro, together with teachers and students of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University, Oleksandr Dubovoi became a co-participant in a historical record that was entered into the Guinness Book of Records – in the Truck Pull exercise (towing a truck), proving once again that Ukrainians are a nation of true heroes.

COACH AND MENTOR OF NEW CHAMPIONS

As a coach, Oleksandr Dubovoi has raised a whole galaxy of talented athletes who worthily represent Ukraine at the World and European Championships. His students:

-Dmytro Hrunskyi – silver medalist of the 2024 European and World Championships, record holder of Ukraine.

-Dmytro Igolkin – a multiple champion of Ukraine in the weight category up to 120 kg.

-Volodymyr Savostianov – a multiple winner and prize-winner of national competitions.

His coaching philosophy is not only in training champions, but also in raising strong-willed individuals.

A LEADER WHO UNITES LEGENDS

As the director of the Educational and Research Institute of Health Care and Sports, Oleksandr Volodymyrovych created a powerful team, which includes outstanding athletes, professional coaches and scientists:

-Iryna Yanovych is a silver medalist of the Olympic Games in cycling.

-Viktoria Tereshchuk is a bronze medalist of the Olympic Games in modern pentathlon.

-Mykola Baranik is a three-time world champion in powerlifting.

-Valerii Hazaiev, Oleksandr Brusak are honored coaches of Ukraine, known far beyond the borders of the country.

This is a team that inspires students to achieve, establishing Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University as a center of sports excellence.

ORGANIZER AND PUBLIC ACTIVIST

Oleksandr DUBOVOI is not only an athlete and teacher, but also an active public figure. He heads the NGO “Federation of Power Sports” of Luhansk region, FST “SPARTAK”, as well as the Kyiv regional center of the Federation of the Strongest Athletes of Ukraine and Tug of War.

Under his leadership, numerous championships of Ukraine, Europe, and the world have been organized, as well as mass physical culture and sports events of a patriotic nature – from university to all-Ukrainian.

His activities are aimed at attracting young people to a healthy lifestyle, forming national dignity and popularizing Ukrainian sports.
