December 10 – International Human Rights Day
11.12.2024
Every year on December 10, the world celebrates Human Rights Day, which was established by the UN General Assembly in 1950.
This date is a reminder of the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948 – a document that became the basis for the international protection of the rights of every person, regardless of their origin, nationality, gender or beliefs.
In Ukraine, this date takes on special significance, because in difficult times of full-scale war and challenges, the protection of human rights becomes an even more urgent task.
Education plays an important role in raising a conscious society that knows its rights and respects the rights of others.
In order to increase the level of legal culture, higher education students from educational and scientific institutes located in the city of Myrhorod met with lawyers from the free legal aid system, Olena Svechnikova and Viktoriia Horbatko. They conducted a training for young people on the topic: “Break the cycle of violence”. The purpose of the training was to draw young people’s attention to the problem of violence, its types and causes, as well as to inform them about ways to counteract it. Particular attention was paid to explaining the rights of victims and the possibilities of obtaining free legal aid.
Such events contribute to the formation of a legal culture among young people, help students realize the importance of human rights and understand how to implement them in everyday life.
Respect for human rights is the basis of any democratic society. Therefore, Human Rights Day is not only an opportunity to remember the importance of rights and freedoms, but also a call for active action to protect and promote them.
Let us remember: human rights are not just words, but the basis of justice, peace and development.
