The international legal regime of occupation is a special order of legal administration, actions of the occupying state and the occupied state. Military occupation occurs when one state invades another and imposes military control over part or all of its territory. According to Article 42 of the Hague Convention, a territory is recognized as occupied if it is truly under the authority of an enemy army. Occupation applies only to those areas where this authority is established.
