Vyshyvanka Day at the Professional College

The great holiday of Ukrainian Vyshyvanka is celebrated around the world on the third Thursday of May.
Teachers and students of the Professional College of LTSNU participated in its celebration. On this day, they attended a city event, organized a photo flash mob and took part in the online event held by college teachers V. M. Donchyk and O. M. Karpenko.
The participants of the video meeting watched presentations about the peculiarities of Ukrainian Vyshyvanka in different regions of Ukraine. They had the opportunity to talk about the style of their execution, about the originality of men’s and women’s embroidered clothes. They got acquainted with the history of the origin and creation of the first school of Ukrainian embroidery in Kyivan Rus. They had the opportunity to participate in answering interesting questions about the essence and purpose of Ukrainian Vyshyvanka. They learned about the biography of the famous embroiderer, Hero of Ukraine, long-lived – Vira Serhiivna Roik.
The participants of the video meeting concluded that: “In order to wear vyshyvanka on the body, you must first wear it on the soul.” After the meeting, the history teacher of the College, O. M. Karpenko, reminded the audience that the current day of Ukrainian Vyshyvanka coincided with the tragic date of the deportation of the Crimean Tatars by the Soviet authorities on May 18, 1944, telling about these terrible events 89 years ago.
