Vyshyvanka Day at the ER IEB
18.5.2023
On Vyshyvanka Day, the staff and students of the Educational and Research Institute of Economics and Business visited local history museums in the Poltava region.
Vyshyvanka is not only a special element of festive national clothing, but also an important part of the culture of the Ukrainian people. That is why every Ukrainian should know about the existence of such an event as Vyshyvanka Day.
The staff of the Educational and Research Institute of Economics and Business together with the students celebrated Vyshyvanka Day by visiting the local history museums of Reshetylivka, Poltava Region. The only center of embroidery and carpet making in Ukraine operates here. The institution has an exhibition hall, as well as workshops for hand and machine embroidery. All this in order to preserve the ancient handicraft art. This is a city where ancient patterns are reproduced on modern products, and traditions are preserved and popularized.
In Reshetylivka there are 4 enterprises for the production of embroidered fabrics and carpets, and the population of the town is engaged in embroidery.
The white-on-white embroidery technology was included in the national list of intangible heritage in 2017, and the traditions of Reshetilivka plant carpet-making in 2018. Currently, efforts are being made to ensure that both of these elements are included in the UNESCO list. In Reshetylivka there is the only school in Ukraine for training students for the production of embroidered fabrics and carpets. Masters have about 200 embroidery technologies.
Vyshyvanka Day has a special significance in 2023, when Russia continues a full-scale war against Ukraine. On May 18, vyshyvanka will become a symbol of the indomitability of the Ukrainian spirit, a statement to the whole world that Ukrainians are a free people.
Vyshyvanka Day is an event designed to preserve Ukrainian traditions and pass them on to the next generation.
