“Shevchenko Readings”

LNU celebrates the 202 anniversary of Taras Shevchenko’s birthday.

Luhansk National University has honored the Genius of Ukrainian culture, poet, artist and philosopher Taras Hryhorovych Shevchenko.

Every nation has the genius which life is inextricably connected with the nation’s life, who talks in the name of all people, whose talent and love of country is endless. Such love makes people immortal. Taras Hryhorovych Shevchenko was such person. He is a picture of every Ukrainian heart’s prayer.

University Rector Serhii Viktorovych Savchenko has congratulated all teachers and students on this important day. He has noted that life and work of Great Kobzar had been the guide for university to perform its main mission – raising highly-educated patriots.

Our Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Social Communications study life and work of Taras Shevchenko.

“We, the current generation, realize our responsibility to save national culture. We are aiming to understand Shevchenko because it means to understand our longsuffering history. Kobzar’s memory has always lived and will always live. Every literature has immortal works. Kobzar by Taras Hryhorovych is such work. Let’s read it and understand that its every row is fateful, important and burning”, – noted Dean of the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Social Communications Tetiana Stepanivna Pinchuk.

Event guests have enjoyed many poems performed by students. But most of all they have been impressed with “Мені однаково, чи буду” by IPP student.

Far from Ukraine poet has suffered by body and soul. Love to miserable land and Ukrainian people is in every row of his poetry.

Ukraine is Shevchenko. Shevchenko is Ukraine. He shows us the holly love – love to mother – Ukraine. That is why his words are like covenant for us:

Свою Україну любіть,
Любіть її…Во время люте,
В останню тяжкую минуту
За неї господа моліть.
