On May 5, the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Journalism held a methodical seminar on the topic: “Activity of a Journalist Under Martial Law”.
The moderators of the event were journalists-practitioners from Poltava region – Olga Izotova (online publication “Poltavshchyna”) and NataliIa KiIashko (“PTV”). The meeting discussed issues related to the new Law of Ukraine “On Media”, the journalist’s code of ethics, as well as the specifics of journalists’ activities in wartime.
Ms. Olga, having extensive experience in investigative journalism, told students and teachers where and how to look for violations in tender purchases for budget money. The journalist gave examples of detection of false data thanks to the resources “Access to the Truth”, “Prozorro”, “Spending”.
She also emphasized the observance of ethical principles and the sensitive subject matter of military essays and military reports, emphasizing the peculiarities of these genres during the war.
SMM specialist Mrs. Nataliia told everyone about the beginning of her professional activity and experience working at Poltava television “PTV” and promoting this channel on the Internet and YouTube channel. The journalist also explained how, thanks to the global satellite system “Starlink” (the only one in the city of Poltava), during the mass attacks of the Russians on Ukraine, it was possible to stay in touch and receive and transmit information.
Such meetings are one of the activities of the Department of Journalism and Publishing, because during such events, the theoretical training of students is enriched by the experience of practitioners who introduce us to the history of journalism in the Poltava region.
