Anniversary of the Chornobyl tragedy

The university team took part in events in honor of the 37th anniversary of the Chornobyl tragedy, which took place in the city of Lubny.
April 26, 1986… 1 hour 23 minutes. A powerful explosion is heard at the Chornobyl NPP. The biggest disaster in the history of nuclear energy occurred, which affected the lives of several generations, deprived thousands of people of their homes, and turned the area around the station into an exclusion zone for many decades.
April 26, 2023 is 37 years since the disaster at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant. Today, Chornobyl is a place that has experienced the second catastrophe in a row. The second was the invasion of Russian troops a year ago.
The Primary Trade Union Ogranization of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University led by Volodymyr Moroz, students and employees of the university joined the city events in honor of the 37th anniversary in the city of Lubny. The collective honored the memory of the dead liquidators from Chornobyl, who saved the world from radiation at the cost of their own lives and health. Flowers were placed at memorial signs for the participants in the liquidation of the consequences of the accident at the Chornobyl NPP.
Thus, they visited the memorial in the military town together with the Lubny city public organization of the disabled “Veterans of Chornobyl”. The head of the organization, Larisa Pogrebniak, thanked those present for participating in the event and briefly told when and to whom this sign was installed. Those present laid flowers and honored the victims with a moment of silence.
Flowers were also placed at the memorial sign “To Lubny citizens – participants in the liquidation of the consequences of the accident at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant” and at the stele in honor of the liquidators who died, which is located on the Alley of Memory on Zazhur Mountain. Representatives of LTSNU and student youth together with citizens, representatives of authorities and public organizations, liquidators of the accident at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant honored the fallen heroes of the environmental and man-made disaster with a moment of silence near both monuments.
The tragedy at the Chornobyl NPP was officially recognized as the largest nuclear disaster in the history of nuclear energy. Hundreds of people lost their lives as a result of this explosion, and the environment suffered irreparable damage. That is why Chornobyl has no past – it is forever in our hearts and the hearts of future generations.
A low bow to all those who met the terrible nuclear element in an unequal battle; bright memory of those whose lives were cut short as a result of the Chornobyl disaster.
