Hairstyles and make-up art master class

The teachers of the Design Department held a master class on hairstyles and make-up art “National Identity in the Ukrainian Image”.

On April 24, in the Art Department of the Poltava Regional Universal Scientific Library named after I.P. KotlIarevskyI, the teachers of the Design Department of the ER ICA held a master class “National Identity in the Ukrainian Image”.

Images and moods of the distant past come to us from ancient times, from frescoes that have barely faded over time, from legends, fairy tales, songs and scientific research. Ukrainian folk clothes, headdresses, hairstyles, and shoes were formed under the influence of climatic and geographical, socio-economic circumstances, and the complexities of political and cultural development.

Our ancestors attached the main, sacred meaning to hair. They believed that it is through the hair that the body draws strength.

What men’s haircuts were popular during Cossack times? Why did the Cossacks have long bangs? Women’s hairstyles – what are they? These and other questions were answered during the master class on hair and make-up art “National Identity in the Ukrainian Image”. The participants of the master class were the 10th grade pupils of the Poltava Secondary School of I-III degrees No. 20 named after Borys Serga.

Nazar Bozhynskyi, Associate Professor of the Design Department of the Institute of Culture and Arts of LTSNU, prepared a meaningful story about ancient men’s haircuts: “under the forelock”, “under the polka”, “under the makitra”, “chuprin”. These methods were common among many peoples, but differ in details and have their own national flavor. Nazar Bozhynskyi also demonstrated the most common women’s hairstyles.

The highlight was the makeup master class conducted by Oksana Hetman, a teacher of the Design Department. The bright colors on the face of the model girl attracted the eyes of those present with make-up in the style of the main character of the cartoon “Mavka. Forest Song”.
