Celebration of the Chinese Language Day

Students of the Faculty of Foreign Languages, studying Chinese, took part in celebration of the Chinese Language Day, which took place on April 20-21, 2023.

Students of the educational programs “Language and Literature (Chinese, English)”, “Translation (English, Chinese)”, as well as students of the educational program “Language and Literature (Chinese)” of the “Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University” with their Chinese teachers joined the solemn events dedicated to the celebration of the Chinese Language Day.

On April 20, a meeting was held with representatives of the Embassy of Ukraine in the People’s Republic of China: Zh. Leshchynska – Temporary Chargé d’Affaires of Ukraine in the People’s Republic of China, Ukrainian diplomat, P. Zvenigorodskyi – Third Secretary of the Embassy of Ukraine in China. They gave a speech “The role of the Chinese language in the development of diplomatic contacts between Ukraine and China”, shared their own career experience, gave advice on areas of study and acquisition of knowledge, skills and abilities, which are absolutely necessary for successful work in the field of international relations. In addition, Mrs. Leshchynska reported on the features of open competitions for positions in embassies and consulates of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

In general, the speech of the distinguished diplomats became a motivational aspect for students regarding further education, self-development and awareness of the prospects of the chosen specialty, the development of Ukrainian Sinology, and the strengthening of Ukrainian-Chinese relations. In addition, some highlighted provisions can become a topic of discussion in the process of improving the educational programs they study at.

On April 21, there was a meeting with V. Kiktenko, a Ukrainian sinologist, doctor of philosophy, president of the Ukrainian Association of Sinology. The theme of the event was “History of Ukrainian Sinology”. Our students had the opportunity to learn about the establishing of international relations with China, the historical origins of teaching the Chinese language and culture in Ukraine, the formation and development of Ukrainian Sinology.
