Online lecture by the Academician of the NAS of Ukraine

The teachers of the Ukrainian Language Department attended the online lecture “Modern Integrative Linguistics” by the Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Svitlana Yermolenko.

On April 25, 2023, teachers of the Ukrainian Language Department of the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Journalism took part in the discussion of the guest online lecture “Modern Integrative Linguistics” delivered by Svitlana Yermolenko – Doctor of Philology, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Head of the Department of Stylistics, Language Culture and Sociolinguistics Institute of the Ukrainian Language of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

The scientific event, initiated by Professor Svitlana Bohdan, head of the Department of History and Culture of the Ukrainian Language at the Lesia Ukrainka Volyn National University, took place within the “Word – Weapon of Ukrainian Progress” project dedicated to the department’s 30th anniversary.

The discussion of the urgent problems of modern linguistic stylistics testified to the growth of the integrative nature of this field of linguistics, which ensures the stability and completeness of the implementation of functional and stylistic norms against the background of the dynamics of language use, the diversification of the segments of retention of the Ukrainian literary language, the development of a rich linguistic and stylistic palette for the expression of human thought and the emotional sphere.

Today, integrative stylistics substantiates the determining influence of the artistic style of the Ukrainian language on the formation of the literary norm of the national language and reveals the tendencies of its dynamic changes.

Svitlana Yakivna Yermolenko presented to the scientific and educational community the practical application of integrative methodologies (the development of linguistic stylistics,  linguistic, media-discursive, intermedial, linguological and other areas of evaluation of texts) and linguistic comprehension of being (evaluation of current texts from the point of view of their reflection of universal and nationally marked concepts, “reading” from texts of various styles of the main meanings of human existence).

Svitlana Yakivna emphasized that integrative stylistics unites language culture and literary language; the lecturer stated that integrative stylistics is combined with modern communicative linguistics, linguistic cultural studies, linguistic sociolinguistics, etc. sciences.

“The standard of literary language has changed. The language of generations is, one might say, different languages, the language of grandchildren and the older generation: grandparents,” the researcher summarized. Changes take place in written form in administrative (official-business), religious (sacred) style. According to Svitlana Yermolenko, the language of advertising and the language of modern diplomacy are currently interesting in terms of research, but not in translation from other languages, but in the Ukrainian interpretation.

The content of the lecture was framed by the idea that the mechanism of language is very unpredictable, and modern virtual communication is a new material for research.
