Slobozhansky idiom in the context of the south-eastern dialect of the Ukrainian language

On April 11, 2023, the Professor of the Ukrainian Language Department of our university held a guest lecture for students of Pavlo Tychyna Uman State Pedagogical University.

The topic of the conversation (dialectal features of the south-eastern dialect of the Ukrainian language) is familiar to the dialectologists Tetiana Mykolaivna Tyshchenko – Candidate of Philological Sciences, Professor of the Department of Ukrainian Language and Methods of Its Teaching, lecturer of dialectology (Uman) – and Kateryna Dmytrivna Glukhovtseva – Doctor of Philological Sciences, who connected their scientific research with the study of native dialects. 

Thus, the students learned about the researcher of the Slobojan dialect, in particular the Eastern Slobojan dialects, the most characteristic phonetic, morphological and lexical features of this area, records obtained during dialectological expeditions, legends and customs of the inhabitants of the region. The listeners were interested in cases that testify to the development of lexical meanings of commonly used words, the formation of phraseological units related to the beliefs of Ukrainians.

Everyone was convinced that dialect speech is an inexhaustible source of evidence about the language of the area and the culture of the region.
