Luhansk National University Celebrates its 95th Anniversary

Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University celebrated its 95th anniversary on March 1. Happy birthday, Dear Alma Mater!
Despite the hard times in the region and all difficulties fallen to the lot of university and its staff, our university is still powerful research and cultural center in Eastern Ukraine, in our native Luhansk region.
Celebrations including the holiday concert took place in Starobilsk. Teachers, university members, students and special guests came together to concert hall.
Holiday was opened with a dancing performance “From Luhansk to Lviv Ukraine is Above All” written by LNU students in spring 2014 and posted on the Internet. This composition was chosen as concert prologue because back in the day it has splashed protestation against separatism, Luhansk occupation and native university engagement. Author’s secure belief in unity of their Motherland and victory has united hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians. Great and holy love to Ukraine was, is and will be in all fair and sincere hearts of its best sons and daughters.
A right to bring in the State Flag of Ukraine and Flag of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University was granted to multiple world champions and powerlifting record-holders Oleksii Bychkov and Mykola Marannik.
Head of Luhansk Civil-War Administration Heorhii Borysovych Tuka congratulated university on its holiday and delighted the emotional sensitivity of prologue. He noted that it could be a kind of the anthem of Luhanshchyna. He admired heroism of the teachers who restore the university in such difficult situation and patriotism of students who remain devoted to Motherland and look forward with optimism.
A title “Honoured Artist of Ukraine” was assigned to Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Director of the Institute of Culture and Arts Inna Olehivna Stashevska; Certificate of Merit of Luhansk Civil-War Administration was presented to Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Horelik, Director of Rubizhne Porai-Koshytsa Polytechnic College of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University, Svitlana Anatoliivna Shpetna – Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Docent, Head of the Department of Culturology, Cinema and Television Art; Letter of Gratitude of Luhansk Regional State Administration – to Daria Serhiivna Sharai, Head of Department Document Management and Vita Oleksiivna Nikitenko, Head of HR Department.
Among special guests there was Rector of Donbass State Pedagogical University Svitlana Oleksandrivna Omelchenko, Deputy Chairman of Luhansk Regional State Administration in Social and Humanitarian Issues Olha Petrivna Lishyk, delegation of soldiers of special purpose regiment, representatives of Department of Education and Science, Luhansk Border Detachment, local government, heads of education departments, gradyates, etc.
People’s Deputy of Ukraine Vitalii Semenovych Kurylo congratulated the university: “In its 95 university lives a full life because it has saved its staff, students, main departments and specialties. We offer more than 60 specialties in bachelor’s and master’s degree on the education market. In addition, university has saved its vocational schools and colleges. Today our university is a leader of higher education in our region and it will not leave this top position. We are going to do the best for development. It is related to improving material and technical resources, IT and developing university infrastructure. Despite hard times, our university keeps developing”.
The scientists were awarded by National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences for significant achievements:
- Certificate of Merit of APS of Ukraine – Halyna Petrivna Shchuka,
- Diploma of APS of Ukraine – Olena Leonidivna Karaman, Iryna Serhiivna Koteneva;
- Medal “K. D. Ushynskyi”- Serhii Viktorovych Savchenko, Oleksandr Ivanovych Babychev
- Medal “Hryhoryi Skovoroda” – Oleksandr Serhiiovych Meniailenko
The awards of the Supreme Soviet of Ukraine were presented:
- Certificate of Merit of the Supreme Soviet of Ukraine – to Olena Mykhailivna Klimochkina,
- Diploma of the Supreme Soviet of Ukraine – to Viktor Mykolaiovych Tkachenko
Chairman of Luhansk Regional Organization of Trade Union of Educators Serhii Vitaliiovych Sevriuk congratulated on the holiday: “Challenges break weak people. The strong after challenges become even stronger, wiser and braver. I am sincerely glad that you have become such. Buildings can be constructed, can be bought but people – no. I sincerely congratulate you on this holiday. I hope to God that we will return to Luhansk … And we will!”.
Volodymyr Petrovych Moroz was awarded with Badge of Central Committee of Trade Union “Honoured Wirker of Trade Union of Educators of Ukraine”. Certificate of Merit was presented to Nadiia Semenivna Bezhodov., Kateryna Oleksandrivna Voronkina and Denys Ihorovych Bohatikov were awarded with certificates and bonuses for the active work.
Pro-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work Olena Mykhailivna Klimochkina presented diplomas “Science Achievements Award” to leading university researches – Tetiana Stepanivna Pinchuk, Inna Olehivna Stashevska and Olena Leonidivna Karaman.
University Rector, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Serhii Viktorovych Savchenko noted that university celebrated its 95th anniversary in Starobilsk, in forced evacuation. “But we are optimistic. We believe what we do is right. We perform our professional and civil duty to our students and region. Our teachers have made a great contribution to success. They were brave enough to leave their homes and families and had to move to Starobilsk and other cities our branches located in”, – noted Rector.
Certificates of Merit were presented to Valentyna Volodymyrivna Liesnova, Oksana Mykolaivna Tsalapova and Yuliia Serhiivna Nuzhna. Also honorary titles were assigned to:
- “The Best LNU Student” 0 Viktoriia Oleksandrivna Onufriichuk,
- “Honorary Worker of University” – Tetiana Fedorivna Berezhna, Nataliia Anatoliivna Naida.
- “Honorary Professor of LNU” – Serhuu Yakovych Kharchenko, Ivan Mykhailovych Karpenko, Viktor Fedorovych Drel and Anatolii Pylypovych Poltavskyi.
- “Honorary Doctor of Sciences of LNU”- Svitlana Oleksandrivna Omelchenko.
Laureate of the International Art Festival “Capital Invites”, X-Factor winner Dmytro Babak congratulated his Alma-Mater as well. “When I was the first-year student, I had the honor to sing two lines of the final song on the concert on the occasion of LNU 90th anniversary. Then I had a dream – to sing the next anniversary. And today it has come true!”, – shared his impressions university graduate. “Great event gathered us together. There is one thing we have in common – our love to native university! We are Shevchenko’s! Every year by our work and art we prove our right to bare the name of Kobzar ”
