Seminar at the Department of Chemistry, Geography and Earth Sciences

A scientific seminar was held at the Department of Chemistry, Geography and Earth Sciences of the Faculty of Natural Sciences.
On March 17-18, the Department of Chemistry, Geography and Earth Sciences of the Faculty of Natural Sciences held a scientific seminar on the topical topic: “Using interactive maps in the educational process: methodological aspects.” The speaker was Iryna Hennadiivna Melnyk, Candidate of Geographical Sciences, Associate Professor. The seminar was held as part of the regular meeting of the “Innovative Technologies of Teaching Geography” group.
The world is increasingly entering the era of the information society, so teaching geography cannot do without interactive maps – an educational resource of the new generation. Their use is considered as an important step in the direction of the introduction of geo-information technologies and the formation of many students’ competencies.
During the seminar, the following main issues were discussed: 1) relevance of interactive maps as a modern educational resource and tool; 2) their didactic capabilities; 3) methodical aspects of using different types of interactive maps in teaching geography.
The attendees, among whom there were students, lecturers, teachers, got to know how to work with various web mapping platforms (Google Maps for Education, Map Maker Interactive from National Geographic, Scribble Maps, etc.), lay out custom geographic maps, perform student research and projects.
The seminar was attended by representatives of various regions including Sumy, Ternopil, Odesa, Chernihiv, Lviv, and others. In the future, the teachers of the Department plan to hold open seminars dedicated to modern learning technologies.
