ChatGPT in the educational process

A practical session on the topic “ChatGPT in the educational process” was held for the first-year students of the Educational and Research Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology.

On March 16, 2023, within the educational component “Oral and written communication and academic rhetoric”, Professor of the Department of Philological Disciplines M. Pochinkova and Assistant of the same Department K. Kovalenko conducted a practical session on the topic “ChatGPT in the educational process” for the first-year students of the Educational and Research Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology.

The purpose of the class was to familiarize students with ChatGPT and the possibilities of using this platform in the educational process in general and in classes on “Oral and written communication and academic rhetoric” in particular.

ChatGPT is a deep-learned language model developed by OpenAI that can generate natural language based on a given query.

During the class, students were able to not only theoretically get to know about this language model, but also tried to use it practically to test the possibilities.

The appearance of ChatGPT caused widespread publicity in the educational community. Educators discuss its advantages and disadvantages, its impact on the educational process, suggest the possibility of increasing academic dishonesty, etc. But, it is common knowledge that it is better to try and check everything yourself.

So, among the advantages of ChatGPT, they singled out: help when searching for the necessary information, making plans, creating test tasks, lists of literature.

Among the shortcomings: constant verification of the correctness of information (for example, ChatGPT presents Oleksandr Kotsiubynskyi as the author of the work “Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors”), a small amount of generated information, technical imperfection (there is a paid version of the content), etc.

Students showed great interest in such a resource, expressed their gratitude to teachers for introducing them to such a tool, which can be effectively used in the educational process.

In turn, teachers noted high activity with positive high marks.

We wish further success to all participants of the educational process in mastering the latest technologies!
