28.2.2023
The future orientalists research group celebrated the 102nd anniversary of T. Shevchenko Luhansk National University.
The festive meeting on the topic “Modern trends of scientific research in the field of Oriental studies” was conducted by N. Fedicheva, associate professor of the Department of Oriental Languages. At the beginning of the meeting, she introduced the participants to the history of the establishment of the Department of Oriental Languages of Taras Shevchenko Luhansk National University and the development of Oriental Studies, the results of which are made public at the annual international scientific and practical conferences “Ukraine-China: Dialogue of Cultures” and “Modern Trends in Oriental Studies”.
She reported that the declaration of independence of our country in 1991 marked the beginning of a real revival in Ukraine of such a field of humanitarian science as Oriental studies. And only then did the restoration of Ukrainian oriental science begin. Currently, in addition to our university, eastern languages are also taught in Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv, Odesa, and Dnipro.
National interests require us to pay the closest attention to the East, by which we mean not only the near and Middle East, but also the Far East. Therefore, it is advisable to have enough highly qualified specialists on the issues of the countries of the East. Ukraine needs to promote its political, defense and economic interests. The leader of the group drew the attention of the future orientalists to the fact that the field has a limitless scope of activity. Future orientalists should know not only the economy and politics of the states of the region, but also history, religious teachings, ethnography, literature of peoples, everything that helps to know ethno psychology or mentality. At the end of the meeting N. Fedicheva provided students with examples of research questions.
