On February 21, the Ukrainian Language Department held an open meeting of the scientific group under the leadership of the head of the Department, Oksana Kleschova, dedicated to the International Mother Language Day.
The meeting of the group “Linguostylistics of the Modern Song Text” was attended by the 1st – 3rd years students of the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Journalism, majoring in “Secondary Education. Ukrainian Language and Literature” and associate professors Anatolii Nairulin and Nadiia Karlova. In her opening speech, Oksana Kleschova spoke about the history of this holiday, stressing that International Mother Language Day has been celebrated in Ukraine for the 23rd year in a row, starting in 2000.
Support for linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism was announced at the XXX session of the UNESCO General Conference, which took place from October 26 to November 17, 1999 in Paris. UNESCO aims to support language as a sign of human cultural belonging, as many languages are threatened with extinction.
