Round Table

A round table “International Experience for Journalism Education and Science in Ukraine: Challenges and Prospects” was held at the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Journalism. 

On February 15, the Dean of the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Journalism, Artem Halych, and the teachers of the Department of Journalism and Publishing, Olga Kutsevska and Oksana Korchagina, together with the master’s students majoring in 061 “Journalism”, took part in the round table “International Experience for Journalism Education and Science in Ukraine: Challenges and Prospects”.

The event was held as part of the Journalism Teachers’ Academy project, which is implemented by the NGO “Ukrainian Institute of Media and Communication” in cooperation with the Deutsche Welle Akademie with the financial support of the Federal Ministry of Development of Germany (BMZ).

A number of important issues were brought up for public discussion, namely:

  • What international experience do Ukrainian journalism faculties have?
  • How to convert the new experience of teachers and students into the development of Ukrainian journalism education?
  • What can be changed in the educational process?
  • What resources and changes are needed for the integration of Ukrainian scientists into the global discourse of media studies.

The speakers were both Ukrainian and international scientists: Roman Horbyk, Sedertern University, Sweden; Tania Lokot, University of Dublin, Ireland; Oksana Pochapska, Kamianets-Podilskyi Ivan Ohienko National University.

The participants of the discussion were: Viktoria Romaniuk, Mohyla School of Journalism, National University “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy”; Volodymyr Sadivnychy, Sumy State University; Evgen Solomin, Uzhhorod National University; Iryna Matsyshina, Donetsk National University; Liubov Khavkina, Kharkiv National University; Andrii Yatsenko, Lviv National University.

The event was moderated by Maksym Yakovlev, head of the Department of International Relations and director of the School of Political Analytics of the Ukrainian National Academy of Sciences.

During the work of the round table, all participants had the opportunity not only to hear new information about the international experience of journalism education and academic mobility, but also to enter into the discussion.
