Practical classes began at the Faculty of Foreign Languages as part of the educational and extracurricular activities of bachelor’s degree students.
On February 1, 2023, practical classes began at the Faculty of Foreign Languages as part of the educational and extracurricular activities of bachelor’s degree students in accordance with the implementation plan of the international Virtual English Language Educator project with the support of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine, Regional English Language Office.
Virtual English Language Educator is a project aimed at supporting higher education institutions of Ukraine, which involves teachers and specialists of various fields of knowledge from the USA in teaching and extracurricular activities at universities. Mr. Lewis T. Daugherty – a specialist with experience in TESOL, such fields as education, intercultural integration, development of communities and territories, development and planning of small business and business systems, etc. During this week, Mr. Doherty taught Practical English and American Studies, covering the following topics: “The American Context. The Country” та “English Writing. English Reading Skills”.
The classes were attended by 16 students of the first (bachelor) level of the 3rd year of educational programs: “Language and Literature (English)”, “Language and Literature (German, English)”, “Language and Literature (French, English)”, “Language and literature (Spanish, English)”, “Translation (English, Chinese)”. Since teaching with native speakers from the USA has not been carried out at the faculty since the first relocation of our institution in 2014, the students enthusiastically accepted this international program. Anna Papikyan, a 3rd-year student of “Language and Literature (German, English)” shared her impressions of the class: “The class brought up a very interesting topic, namely “The American Context”, which inspired me to further research the development of the issue of intercultural integration “. Dmytro Andriyko, a student of the “Language and Literature (English)” educational program, was interested in something else: “I was very interested in learning about how business systems and small businesses are built in America. Also, I can’t help but note the new teaching methods that were used in the class.”
Traditionally, we remind you that the Faculty of Foreign Languages of Taras Shevchenko LNU has a long history of cooperation with the US Embassy in Ukraine, so this year’s implementation of the Virtual English Language Educator project on the basis of our faculty will be another example of cooperation between the two institutions.
